I decided to create a blog for all my late night technology projects.. Or actually, let’s rewind a bit..
Some time ago, almost four years ago, I was living in India and a bit bored after work, so I decided to start a new hobby: cooking. And as a first step, I created a blog called latenitechai so I could track my progress (and to track how my written English gets improved over time, IF it gets improved at all). Writing a blog nicely combined my old hobby, computers, with my new hobby, creating food. And why was I in India? My old hobby, computers, had led me there, as I was programming Android software to an Indian company. But enough about the history, lets fast forward to recent events.
For years I have thought of buying a Raspberry Pi computer. I will get back to this in future posts. A month ago, out of blue, I finally decided that time was ripe to do it, so I ordered the parts and started the waiting game. Needless to say, that I was super eager and couldn’t wait for the parts to arrive, so I started wondering what could I do in the meanwhile to prepare my tech setup for the new computer. I had some ideas what to do with the raspi already in my mind, and whatever I decided to do with it, one thing was sure: it was going to be connected to the internet. And of course I wanted to be able to access it from anywhere, so that finally lead to an idea that I needed a domain name, to ease up the connections and maybe someday share some interesting data to others as well.
Then came the tricky part: how to name my domain 🙂 It had to be fairly short, global and if possible, meaningful to myself. After discarding several names, I ended up to tofu.fi, but unfortunately it was taken already, but seitan.fi was not! Even better, I like seitan more than tofu anyways. I set up the server and registered a domain (I will probably write a post about this too) and there it was, my brand new domain! As a first step, I added an ascii cow on the front page and I was proud of my new setup, with so many new possibilities.
OK, now I got my server setup, domain registered and now what. Of course I wanted to have some content on my new server, ascii cow was nice but I don’t want to pay about 4 eur by month for that only. I came up with idea to move my blog from blogger to my own server. While planning on how to do this, I realized that this was a great opportunity to clean up the blog as well: most of my posts are about food, but from time to time I ended up mixing in some other projects as well. It would be a good idea to have a place to store those old posts and also it might be useful and interesting to write about my new projects, about raspi projects and hosting up my own server for example. And finally, the idea came to start up a completely new blog dedicated to my technology hobby: latenitetech!
And that was a very long way to say why I started up this blog 🙂
